Eye Exams & Services

What eye care services do you offer?

We provide comprehensive eye exams for adults, pediatric eye exams, contact lens exams, and diabetic eye exams. We also offer emergency eye care, eye disease diagnosis and management, dry eye treatment, digital eye strain care, myopia control, and laser eye surgery consultations. Our optical team also fits glasses and sunglasses.

What happens during a comprehensive eye exam at your Phoenix clinic?

Your exam checks both your vision and your overall eye health. Depending on your age, symptoms, health history, and family history, testing may include iCare tonometry (an eye pressure test with no air puff), Optos ultra-widefield retinal imaging, OCT scans of the retina, visual field testing, and corneal pachymetry. Dr. Balocca recommends how often you should return based on your results, and our team is happy to explain each device before testing.

Do you treat dry eye, and does living in Phoenix make it worse?

Yes we offer dry eye examination and treatment plans. Dry eye is common in our desert climate, and we evaluate the cause of your symptoms before recommending treatment. Options may include prescription eye drops, in-office meibomian gland expression, Thermal 1-Touch heat therapy, amniotic membrane therapy for moderate to severe cases, warm eye masks, and dietary changes or omega-3 supplements. Your plan is tailored to your symptoms and how severe they are.

Do you offer eye exams for people with diabetes?

Yes. Diabetes can affect the blood vessels in the retina, often before you notice any change in vision. Our diabetic eye exams include detailed retinal imaging and OCT scans to monitor for diabetic retinopathy and track changes over time. Dr. Balocca has a special interest in managing eye health for patients with diabetes and high blood pressure.

Children’s Eye Care

At what age should my child have their first eye exam?

We recommend a first visual development check at 6 months of age, followed by exams around age 2 or 3, then yearly exams for all school-aged children. Pediatric exams check how well your child sees, how their eyes work together, and signs of conditions like amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (crossed eyes). These are often missed by school vision screenings.

Do you offer myopia control for children?

Yes. Myopia (nearsightedness) can worsen quickly as children grow, and high myopia raises the risk of serious eye conditions later in life. We offer myopia control, including fitting Stellest lenses, which are glasses designed to correct vision while slowing myopia progression.

Eye Conditions

Can you diagnose and manage eye diseases like glaucoma and macular degeneration?

Yes. Dr. Balocca screens every patient for conditions such as glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and provides ongoing monitoring and management for patients diagnosed with them. Catching these conditions early gives you the best chance of protecting your vision.

Eyewear

Can I get glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses at Eye On Health?

Yes. Our optical team helps you choose frames that suit your style, face shape, and prescription, with brands such as Gucci, Oakley, and Ray-Ban available. We also offer contact lens exams and fittings, and patients can order through our online store.
