Technology for Healthy Eyes
We use a variety of eye care technologies in our comprehensive eye exams to screen for different conditions and monitor your eye health over time.
We may not use each device in every exam; your diagnostic testing will be determined by your age, existing conditions, family history, reported symptoms, and any other relevant factors.
We’re happy to explain each device we use in the pre-testing phase of your exam if you have any questions.
We use the iCare device to test the eye pressure inside your eye, known as the intraocular pressure (IOP). Our iCare device does not use a puff test and is an important diagnostic tool in screening for glaucoma, an eye disease that involves elevated eye pressure and can cause vision loss.
Retinal imaging is an essential part of a comprehensive eye exam. It involves taking a picture of the retina. The retina is the light-sensitive tissue that lines the inside of your eye and is responsible for capturing light and sending visual information to the brain via the optic nerve.
Optos retinal imaging captures an ultrawide view of the retina, allowing us to see a greater percentage of your eye in one image. This helps us monitor the health of your retina, optic nerve, blood vessels, and more.
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans use light waves to map the inside of your eye. Particularly useful for screening and monitoring retinal diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration, OCT scans map the layers of the retina, allowing us to detect any changes to your eye health or retinal thickness over time.
Your visual field refers to the entire area you can see while your eyes are fixed on a central point. This includes your central and peripheral vision. We test and track your visual field measurements. This allows us to catch any changes to your peripheral vision between visits, which can indicate eye diseases such as glaucoma.
Corneal pachymetry measures the thickness of your cornea, the clear, front part of your eye. It is useful for screenings for glaucoma, as well as checking your eligibility for laser eye surgeries, such as LASIK.
